2019 Build Season Week 4 Article
Week 4 of Build Season has come to an end, and the Janksters have continued to be very productive. Each of the committees has been diligently building and working on individual projects.
Chassis finished deciding on the piston lift mechanism and is now working on CAD and building gearboxes. The Hatch subcommittee prototyped and worked on how to move the cargo/hatch mechanism to pick up the game elements. The Elevator subcommittee began the mechanism for Jankybot, which is nearly complete. The Cargo subcommittee completed the mechanism that will go on Jankybot, planned how it will connect to a complex slider system, and has been working on completing CAD. Many Projects was able to complete the 8-foot tall rocket and build the loading station, which will be very useful for drive practice.
In Programming, the Vision subcommittee got the code to accurately calculate the distance and offset of the robot to the reflective tape. The group is continuing to improve this code and make it work in all scenarios that the robot may later encounter on the field. The Programming Hatch subcommittee finished the code for the chassis and edited the code to prepare for the addition of an ultrasonic sensor on the robot. They also started coding for LED lights that may be added once other tasks are finished. After talking to the mechanical game component groups and specifying what sensors and components would need to be coded, the Programming Elevator subcommittee finished coding both the cargo and elevator mechanisms. They tested the code on last year’s robot, Lola, to ensure it works, and are currently waiting for Jankybot to complete testing.
The Electronics committee finished the CAD for the horizontal electronics board and almost finalized the design of their vertical board. They have also been working on cable management and started to CAD and wire up the mounts for the various sensors that could possibly be used on the robot.
Business has been making progress on producing team bows and mini perler bead bows for individual giveaways. The committee also finished designing a shirt for younger supporters of the team and collected orders for member apparel. Continuing to build the team’s social media presence has remained a priority, and they have been consistently posting team activity on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
