Who We Are
We are an all-girls robotics team from Notre Dame High School in San Jose, California, officially known as Team 1967, The Janksters. Since joining FRC in 2006, we have grown from a small group of 7 students to a thriving community of 68, with a strong yearly retention rate of 80%. As we approach our 20th season in 2025, we’ve expanded not only in numbers but also in space. What began as a small group of girls working out of a closet has evolved into a driven team in a full engineering lab within Notre Dame’s Center for Women’s Leadership.
Our Mission
Empowering girls to explore STEM via robotics
Our mission as Notre Dame’s all-girls robotics team is to empower young women to explore STEM through hands-on experience in engineering and robotics. We foster a community where students can develop not only technical skills but also essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and service. These experiences prepare them for success, whether in STEM fields or any path they choose to pursue.
Student members collaborate closely with professional engineers and educators in a supportive environment, all working toward the shared goal of building a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Beyond building robots, our primary aim is to inspire and excite our team members about the endless possibilities that STEM has to offer.
FIRST and FRC
Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing young people for the future through inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4-18.
FRC (FIRST® Robotics Competition), known as the ultimate Sport for the Mind™, is an international competition for high school students. Within the constraints of strict rules, limited time, and resources, teams are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," develop teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-sized robots to compete in complex field games against teams from around the world.
