Who We Are

We are an all-girls robotics team from Notre Dame High School in San Jose, California, known officially as Team 1967, The Janksters. Our robotics team has been participating in FRC since the 2006 Season, and we are proud to have had our 18 year anniversary in 2023! Since this community began, our team has grown from 7 to 68 students, with a retention rate of 80% after accounting for graduating seniors. We have not only expanded in numbers, but in space as well, with our new designated space in the Center for Women’s Leadership.

Our Mission

Our mission as the Notre Dame Robotics team is to create a community of learners who love to explore engineering and robotics. They also learn key skills such as teamwork, leadership, and service through hands-on experience that will help them succeed in life, regardless of their career path or committee on the team.

Within the team, the student members work closely with professional engineers and educators in a familiar environment to learn lessons about engineering and life skills through a common goal: building a robot to compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. In addition to working hard to build a successful robot, our primary goals include exciting and engaging our student members about the possibilities in engineering.

FIRST/FRC

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is an international youth program creating all sorts of competitions open to all ages.

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international competition for high school students. Students, mentors, and coaches spend 6 weeks to create a functioning robot that’s ready to compete in that year’s game.

“The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”
